Why Privacy Lab Exists

Privacy is a human right. It shouldn't cost anything to find out where you stand.

Most organisations trying to figure out their data-protection obligations hit the same wall: the law is dense, advice is expensive, and the first honest answer usually comes only after money has changed hands. Privacy Lab exists to remove that wall — for individuals, small organisations, researchers, and anyone who just needs a straight answer.

It is Assegai's not-for-profit unit, built and operated with the same engineering discipline as Trident — anonymous-first by design, so using it never requires an account, a login, or handing over personal data. If it later reveals gaps worth fixing properly, Trident Protect is there for that. Privacy Lab itself asks nothing of you.

Three ways in

Each one stands alone — pick the one that matches what's actually on your mind right now.

~2 min

POTRAZ Tier & DPO Checker

Answer a few questions about your organisation; get a straight verdict on your licensing tier, fee, and whether you need a DPO — with the exact statutory reference behind it.

~3 min

Breach First-Response Check

Think you’ve had a breach? Zimbabwe gives you 24 hours to notify POTRAZ. This walks you through what counts, and what to do right now.

10–25 min, adaptive

Data Protection Needs Assessment

The full picture: a guided assessment tailored to what your organisation actually does, ending in a plain-language list of what to fix first.

Beyond The First Check

One guided journey, not a pile of forms

The three tools above are entry points into a single seven-stage journey covering the full span of what a data controller actually needs to know. Answer something once and Privacy Lab remembers it — nothing is asked twice across stages, and your progress is always visible.

01
Scope & applicability
Are you a data controller? Do you need a POTRAZ licence? Which tier?
02
Licensing & fees
What you owe POTRAZ, worked out from your actual licensing tier — not a guess.
03
Lawful basis & rights
Consent, transparency, and the rights you owe the people whose data you hold.
04
Breach & security
A 24-hour first-response check if something has already gone wrong.
05
Vendors & transfers
Third parties, cross-border transfers, and the agreements they need.
06
Marketing & AI
PECR-style marketing rules and AI/Shadow-AI exposure.
07
Accountability
Training, governance maturity, and the records that prove it.
How It's Built

No login, no PII, no catch

Every result is free to read on screen — nothing is ever gated behind a signup to see your own answer. Return visits work through a private organisation code, not an account: enter it again later and your history is right where you left it. If you want one place to manage several ventures over time, a free account is optional, never required.

Anonymous by default: No name, email, or company details needed to run any check.
A private code, not a login: One code ties your history together across visits and tools — yours alone, never guessable.
Optional free account: For managing more than one organisation or venture in one place, if you want it.
If You Find Gaps

Privacy Lab tells you where you stand. Trident Protect runs your compliance.

A free check is a diagnosis, not ongoing treatment. If Privacy Lab surfaces real gaps — a missing licence, no DPO, no breach process — that's exactly what Trident Protect is built to close: a managed platform with an actual DPO in the loop, not another form to fill in alone.
